In late October, The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City released its tenth district report. This highlighted activity using data collected from holding companies, depository institutions, financial and non-financial entities and consumers, offering information on a number of industries. The October report on activity within the manufacturing industry, highlighting the September reading, found a slight decline in activity. The Fed reported -8 for September, which is up slightly from -9 in August. Reasons for the continued depletion reflect the strength of the dollar and lower energy activity, according to The Federal Reserve Bank. On the positive side of the spectrum, non-durable production of food, chemicals and plastics continues to improve, future capital expenditures remain basically unchanged, and the employment index is up.
It’s All Who you know
Despite the lag suggested by this report, one of the most important positive indicators is the lift within the employment sector. This is also reflective of the current standing of manufacturing, engineering and construction clients that work with Austin Nichols Technical Search in Kansas City. All clients report they are in a steady growth mode. For the job candidate, this is very good news and means increased availability of job openings in areas such as Kansas City, Omaha, Fort Scott, Springfield as well as with employers outside of the Midwest.
