Give New Life to Your Resume

If you’re in the market for a new position, your resume may need some dusting off and refreshing.  But where do you start? Follow these steps and you can turn your resume into a high powered marketing tool.

  1. Get a Clear Focus: After identifying your strengths and what motivates you, you will be able to zero in on jobs that speak to these areas. Refreshing your resume in ways to highlight these strengths in your job history may get you the results you are looking for. If you have more than one career interest, it will benefit you to develop different versions of your resume as opposed to constructing a one-size-fits-all resume.
  2. Read All About It: Get to know your job target. Perhaps it has been a while since you have been in the job market or you just need to get a good idea of the qualifications employers are looking for in today’s market.  Speaking to people in the industry you are targeting will help you get a better understanding of the job you are focusing on.
  3. Share Your Accomplishments:  Providing your accomplishments demonstrates your willingness to compete in today’s job market and increase your chances of getting an interview.  Using numbers, percentages, dollar amounts and comparisons will back up your claims.
  4. Proofread and Proofread Again:  Review your resume for proper grammar, punctuation, and word use.  Have someone read it for you as well. This may help in an area you may have overlooked.

Take it for a spin. Now it’s time to post your resume.  Monitor your results and make changes to your profile that may generate even more responses.
